ICT project

Following the establishment of the Aglow Vocational Training Centre, It has become necessary to also establish Computer Training Centre as Computer Education has now become a pivot on which all academic disciplines revolve. In the fabric of Ghanaian Society, Computing has become indispensable and now a pre-requisite for several job offers in the country.

Furthermore, Aglow International Ghana, with its caring nature has recognized that the family nucleus of which the woman is the center, needs to be nurtured and encouraged to provide the needed support for the family. Aglow has the welfare of the underprivileged women and teenage girls who one way or the other are unable to complete their education due to poverty, neglect, disability, prostitution, teenage pregnancy, HIV etc.

It is the desire of the Aglow Ministry to offer support to them through the establishment of a Computer Training Centre to conduct various computer awareness & computer education programmes, in other to spread over the computer literacy and computer education throughout the country especially among the women of the Country.

Therefore, Aglow International Ghana, by the grace of God has converted one of its 12 classrooms to a Computer Training Centre to begin computer education as part of its vocational curriculum.

The Computer Training Centre has a sitting capacity of 30 and currently equipped with a well-designed and structured local area network (LAN) for data sharing, Furniture for 30 students, 30 Dell Computers, 1 Server, 1 LCD Projector, 1 Network Colour Laser Jet Printer and an Audio system to facilitate Computer Education.

The fundamental objective of this Computer project is to provide the aged and underprivileged girls and women with the necessary computer skills. Specific objectives are as follows:

i. Development of educational abilities among women so as to reduce unemployment;

ii. Undertake studies relating changes in technologies world-wide and to absorbed them in this country so as to achieve improved productivity and efficiency;

iii. Achieve social and economic transformation among Ghanaian women; and

iv. Attain hands-on IT skills that can be effectively used in the both office and corporate environments.

The training program will include but not limited to the following:

i. Introduction to Windows;

ii. Keyboard orientation lab to teach the student keyboard skills and typing;

iii. Introduction to the Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Publisher etc.

iv. Internet and email orientation

The programme will be further deepened as the training progresses.

In our quest to improve communication among the Aglow ministry in Ghana, The National Board of Aglow International Ghana has decided to provide tailor-made computer training to all Aglow Regional and Area Representatives.

A “boot-camp” will be organized for all Regional and Area Representatives and after the training, each representative will be equipped with a Laptop, Printer and Internet facility. It is envisaged that this training and investment will facilitate faster communication between the National Office and the entire membership of Aglow.

The main challenge now is to secure Internet connectivity with a through-put of 1Mbps and also acquire chairs for the computer lab.

We are trusting and believing God to commence the Computer Training soon. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God for it is the Lord who will make our feet like the hind’s feet and cause us to walk upon our high places.
