Aglow International with its caring nature has recognized that the family nucleus of which the woman is the center needs to be nurtured and encouraged to provide the needed support for the family. It is a well accepted fact that if a child is trained from infancy she will not depart from it when she grows.

This has led to the realization that the girl child is an important part of the growing process and therefore needs to be trained while she is young. Many of these girls were unable to complete their education due to poverty, neglect, disability, prostitution, teenage pregnancy, HIV orphans

Aglow has the welfare of these teenage girls at heart and it is the desire of Aglow Ministry to offer support to them through the establishment of a Vocational Center .

The Fundamental objective of this proposed project is to train young women who lack employable skills to acquire a vocation. Specially, the project will have the following objectives:

    Reduce unemployment among women.
Assist in rehabilitating young delinquent women
    Develop their vocational talents
Assist them to acquire employable skills
    Assist in community development
Assist in the overall development of the nation's human resource.

The training program will include but not limited to the following

    Craft and handiwork
    Home management and catering
    Sewing and dressmaking
    Hairdressing and styling
    Secretarial studies
    Book Keeping and accounting
    Communication skills
    Basic education
    Snail and mushroom farming

The courses will be offered free of charge to the trainees. However, each trainee will have to be sponsored by an Aglow member, a group of members of a chapter.

Excellent trainers and facilitators will be recruited to facilitate the learning process. These will include friends of Aglow who will be willing to volunteer their services as well as those who would be engaged for a fee.

It is hoped that by the end of the training period, trainees would be able to acquire employable skills to earn a living to cater for themselves and to improve on the quality of their lives.

Where the nature of the course involves the issue of an external certificate, the center will offer the needed assistance for the trainees to obtain such certificates after their training especially from the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).

The project will be implemented in phases as indicated below:

PHASE ONE: Construction and furnishing of classroom, hostel and administrative blocks accommodation for the Director and key staff, development of training Manuel and installation of office equipment. Admission of the first teaching and non-teaching staff would also be made during the first phase.

PHASE TWO: Construction of Auditorium for workshops, housing for other members of the staff, the training of staff and the training of teaching staff would begin in the second phase of the project.

PHASE THREE: Construction of a Chapel, Retreat center and a great hall for conference, meetings would be undertaken during this phase. It is planned that some of the projects that due to lack of funds could not be completed in the first phase, for example would be carried over to the next stage.

The investment and incremental project cost including physical and price contingencies have been estimated at $3.73 million. Part of the project cost amounting to about $200.000 would be funded primarily by chapters of Aglow International.

The major cost components are as follows:

    Cost of land
    Fencing of land
Construction of first phase of classrooms, workshop and offices

Funding of the project cost, about $3.5million would be sought from donor agencies, foreign missions and developmental agencies.

So far work has started on the construction of the first phase of the classrooms, workshop and offices.
